Welcome to my blog Dr. Grob’s animation review!
In this blog I’m trying to post a review on every single animation film I own, whether they are long or short, commercial or independent, well-known or obscure, old or new. This blog therefore will not be topical, but should grow into a reference site to everyone interested in animation film.
I’m an animation buff myself, and. I’m mainly interested in the history of animation, so I’ll try to put the films I’m reviewing into a historical context, and I’ll try to make cross-links between animation films.
In 2018 Theme Park Press has published my first book, ‘Mickey’s Movies – The Theatrical Films of Mickey Mouse‘.
This blog now features over 1600 reviews, but I’m planning to expand this site with many, many more. So please keep checking this site out in the near future.
Being Dutch, English is not my native language. If you discover an error, linguistic or otherwise, please feel free to correct me.
I hope you’ll enjoy this site and that you’ll return to it often. If you like my site, please consider linking to it.

hi, just a quick question: I wanted to add a comment to ‘Pluto’s Blue Note’ (https://drgrobsanimationreview.com/2012/10/01/plutos-blue-note/#comment-1175) but can’t figure out how to do that. In some other posts there is a comment box below, but not in all, it seems?

This is an old post. Because of the enormous amount of spam old posts receive I had to put a max number of days on the possibility of commenting on posts. After 1100 days it’s no longer possible.

I’ve just raised the bar a little. Now it should be possible for you to react.

Great site, I love it! It already pointed me to films I never saw as yet.
Being a great admirer of the work of Norman McLaren, I could not resist searching for a review but didn’t find any. Could I herewith gently invite you to have a look at his work? Almost all his films (and many others) can be viewed for free on the National Film Board of Canada’s website: https://www.nfb.ca/search#?queryString=McLaren&index=0
I especially love “Begone Dull Care” (abstract motion created by painting directly on film) “La poulette grise” (an evolving pastel drawing) “Le Merle” (paper cut-out) – though they’re all fascinating, if only for the amazing array of animation techniques that he explored since the 1930’s.

Dear Lúthien,
Thank you for your compliments! I have the complete Norman McLaren films on DVD, but I have only just started watching and reviewing his films, and none of these reviews have been published here, yet. This is the case with ca. 80 % of the animation films I own at the moment, so there’s still a lot of work to do 🙂

Thanks for your quick answer .. 80%! Wow, that figure both scares (because of the workload that I can imagine all too well) and delights me (given how much more surprises and discoveries loom behind the horizon) 🙂

Thanks for your posting, and for the link! I hadn’t seen it yet. I’m curious to read more of your articles. The Cartoon Music Book, for example, is on my wishlist.

Like the header from Toot, Whistle. One of my favorites. I’m working on a bio of Wilfred Jackson whose name I coincidentally see to the left of this box. 🙂

Hi my name is mauro and i appreciate your site very much because it is about ‘old’ animation less politically correct than today. I would ask a question about a cartoon that i ‘ve seen several years ago with a little mouse that by a potion goes faster but it was not jerry or gonzales it is a sort of competitor of them that ‘plays’ for tom or duffy duck or… and little mouse panted at last…it was very well done so i think about chuck jones or quimby or jannabarbera first period. o hope in some help. Many thanks in advance , mauro. mau_ro40@hotmail.com
