Review:
‘Swedish Visitors’ is the first episode since ‘The Surprise‘ that is not connected to (the coming of) young Pebbles. Instead, we follow Fred’s fruitless attempts to have some rest on his well-earned vacation.
The episode knows quite some plot twists, so I won’t reveal more, but the episode is noteworthy for Wilma’s dishonesty, a character trait mostly reserved for Fred, and it is a bit unsettling to see it in Fred’s normally so faithful wife.
‘Swedish Visitors’ also knows a great comedy routine at a bank, in which an unfortunate employee has to roll away three humongous stones to get into a vault. Yogi Bear and Boo-Boo also make a cameo appearance, but it’s the Swedes who make this episode special. Now, the very idea of ‘Swedes’ in prehistory is as preposterous as the yankee-hating colonel was in ‘Fred’s New Job‘, but one particular dumb one forms the direct inspiration for Cousin Svën in the Ren & Stimpy episode ‘Svën Høek’, with his repeated rendering of ‘he is Ole, you are Sven’, which was given to Svën as his opening line in the Ren & Stimpy episode.

Review:
‘Hawaiian Vacation’ is the first of three ‘Toy Story Toons’ produced in 2011 and 2012. The short opened for ‘Cars 2‘ and is set in Bonnie’s house after the events of ‘Toy Story 3’.
The film opens on a wintery day with Bonnie’s family going on a vacation to Hawaii. Ken and Barbie have been hiding in her rucksack as stowaways, for Ken has decided he will give Barbie her first kiss on the tropical island. Unfortunately, they’ve been hiding in Bonnie’s school rucksack, which remains at home, but Woody and the other toys have an idea.
‘Hawaiian Vacation’ relies a lot, and maybe too much on the familiar tropes of all the Toy Story characters. The idea of friends helping out a friend distress is charming, but I wonder whether Ken and Barbie were the best choice as the film’s main protagonists. Oh well, it accounts for six minutes of unpretentious fun.

Review:
Because they have saved earth from an impending doom in ‘L’imparable menace‘, Pierrot, Psi and Petit Gros are allowed to go on holiday on earth, where they’re received as heroes.
On earth, Maestro’s ancestor (from ‘Le long voyage‘) is their guide, and he takes our heroes to the countryside. Here he tells our heroes the history of earth from the 21st century onward. Barillé’s vision of the earth’s future contains some rather somber views on genetics, war, informatics and the climate.
In the second half of this episode, the old Maestro takes Pierrot and Petit Gros into space, showing a solar ring, a cemetery of spaceships, and even an amusement park called ‘Barillé’s Land’.
Because of its holiday theme, this short moves at a leisurely speed, and it is rather boring compared to the two episodes preceding it. However, even in this relaxed episode, there’s some conflict, when our heroes encounter a saboteur from Cassiopeia.
Inconsistent design have always tortured the Il était une fois… series. And in this episode, in certain scenes the drawings of our heroes are no less than terrible.
