Review:
In ‘The Unshrinkable Jerry Mouse’ Tom is master of the house and Jerry is his slave. But then enters a cute young kitten. Tom gets jealous at the intruder and tries to get rid of it. But Jerry befriends the kitten and in the end the tables are turned.
One of the weaker entries in Chuck Jones’ Tom & Jerry series, ‘The Unshrinkable Jerry Mouse’ is a surprisingly unfunny cartoon, suffering from bad timing and ugly music.

Definitely not one of the best Chuck Jones Tom and Jerry shorts. Don’t get me wrong, the cartoon looks absolutely gorgeous, but the timing is easily the short’s weakest aspect.
For example, the scene where Jerry lassoes one of Tom’s toes to stop him from kicking the kitten out, animated by Don Towsley, is sabotaged by the matter that Tom just leaves his foot open to let Jerry lasso his toe instead of kicking the kitten in rapid succession.
The cat and the mouse may not have been quite suited for Chuck Jones’s style, but if it weren’t for them, we probably wouldn’t have the Oscar-winning cartoon ‘The Dot and the Line’ (1965) or the TV special ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas!’ (1966). Otherwise, if Jones devoted his time solely to Tom and Jerry, he would’ve wasted his efforts at MGM, despite some gems from this period of the cat and the mouse.
